Requirements

Wonder's Playground has a thorough volunteer application process. The application requirements are as follows:

1. Over the age of 18 years old

2. Two reference letters

3. Vulnerable Sector Police Check

4. Completion of training, see below.

Training

Wonder's Playground offers training for those who wish to model inclusive play. Training topics are informed by the lived experience of autistic adults, parents of autistic children, and professionals.

Reference letters are available after a minimum of 24 volunteer hours. We require volunteers to abide by our COVID safety procedures. Masks for adults are mandatory.

There is a three-step training process:

1. Introduction and safety policies (Online)

- Safety & Abuse Prevention

- Duty to Report

- Policies

2. Autism and Neurodiversity (Online)

- Importance of terminology

- Neurodiversity and the autistic brain

- Sensory differences

- How to engage in play

- AAC training is available upon request

3. In-person shadowing
